Astute’s Nuclear team is exclusively partnered with a specialist lifting and handling equipment business, acting as the lifting principal contractor on Hinkley Point C. We are currently recruiting a Lift/Rigging Supervisor to support safe lifting operations for gantry crane installation and maintenance.

You will work in a highly regulated and safety-critical environment and prepare, inspect, and use lifting equipment (slings, shackles, chains, spreader beams, lifting frames) in line with LOLER and site standards.

The role offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and the chance to play a key role in one of the UK’s flagship infrastructure developments.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Black Hat Supervisor, you will:

Safely attach and detach loads to gantry crane hooks and lifting devices.
Signal and direct crane operators during lifts, ensuring clear communication (using hand signals, radios, or agreed site protocols).
Assist in the movement and positioning of heavy and complex loads, including large prefabricated nuclear plant components.
Follow all Hinkley Point C site safety procedures, RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements), and permit-to-work systems.
* Carry out pre-use inspections of rigging gear and report any defects immediately.
* Ensure exclusion zones are maintained during crane operations to protect the workforce.
* Maintain compliance with nuclear site regulations, site induction requirements, and security protocols.

Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:

* Experience in assembly of gantry cranes
* Level 3 Apprenticeship in Moving Loads, Lifting and Position Steel Structures, Plant or Equipment or Steel Erection. OR
* Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Moving Loads, Lifting and Position Steel Structures, Plant or Equipment or Steel Erection. (Minimum Level 6 in the above if apprenticeship/qualification awarded in Scotland) OR
* ACE Card in Moving Loads

Personal skills
The Rigger role would suit someone who has:

Strong situational awareness and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure in busy work environments.
A safety-first mindset and willingness to challenge unsafe practices.
Ability to obtain BPSS security clearance.
