Kelly Chappell is a Talent Specialist supporting the power generation sector at Astute.
With over a decade in customer service and team management (including estate agency, hospitality, and social support services), she brings a calm, people first approach to recruitment, matching engineers, technicians, and project managers with roles where they can genuinely thrive.
In this edition of Our People, Kelly shares how she joined Astute, what her day to day looks like, and the moments that make the job worth it.
How did you get into your role at Astute?
I worked with the partner of one of Astute’s directors in a previous role. She knew how unhappy I was in that company, and so she recommended me for the Talent Specialist role at Astute!
What do you do for Astute?
Kelly’s answer is equal parts honest and on brand.
According to Kelly, she keeps the kitchen tidy and entertains people with her wit.
More seriously, she:
-
Finds candidates for roles, qualifies them, and writes up a cover letter
-
Preps candidates thoroughly for interviews
-
Supports onboarding and helps people settle into their new role smoothly
What is your favourite thing about working at Astute?
“Being treated like an adult” is top of the list.
Kelly also points to the wellbeing focus across the business, and the social side of the team.
What have you enjoyed most about your recent projects?
For Kelly, it comes down to the people.
She’s enjoyed speaking with a diverse mix of candidates and getting real insight into what they do day to day.
She also loves being able to support people properly through the interview process, doing what she can to help them feel prepared and confident.
What is the most exciting thing about your role?
It’s the call everyone hopes for.
Kelly says the best moment is telling someone they’ve been successful, especially when you know how much they wanted it.
One candidate was so overwhelmed by the offer that it reduced her to tears.
She’s just as honest about the flip side too, letting candidates know they have been unsuccessful.
It never gets easy.
What advice would you give someone who is looking to join Astute?
Go for it.
Just be prepared for a loopy rollercoaster of emotions, but a lot of fun too!
