Astute are working on behalf of our client who operate a Gas Storage facility located in Hampshire. Gas taken from the National Transmission System is placed into storage on site and held until demands require it to be placed back into use. The facility has a storage capacity of 10 billion cubic feet which provides around 20% of the UK Storage capability.

We are looking for ideally a CompEx qualified Electrical & Instrumentation Technician with an apprenticeship and around five years industry experience. As an E&I Technician you will be responsible for carrying out reactive and preventative maintenance across a variety of critical plant & equipment on site.

Responsibilities and duties:
As the E&I Technician you will be responsible for:

  • Carry out and schedule reactive & preventative maintenance and repair duties.
  • Servicing variety of equipment including distribution panels, controllers, starters, flow / pressure / temperature instrumentation and perform calibration.
  • Use the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record and log all maintenance work.
  • Carrying out inspections & Maintenance on ATEX equipment.
  • Perform plant isolations ensuring compliance with permit to work system & safe systems of work.
  • Supervise specialist contractors and provide assistance when needed.
  • Provide call out / out of hours breakdown service as and when required.
 
 
 
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • An apprentice in a relevant engineering field such as Electrical Engineering / Electronics Engineering.
  • Ideally qualified with a level 3 NVQ / City & Guilds
  • It would be advantageous to have a CompEx Certificate
  • Certified to work on HV equipment including HV switching
 
 
 
Personal skills
The E&I Technician would suit someone with:

  • Experience in a similar industry such as Petrochemical, Refinery, Energy from Waste, Biomass, Power Generation, Petrochemical etc
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation relating to CompEx and working in Hazardous Areas
  • Able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Ability to be able to prioritise workload accordingly
