Greg Storey is a Power Contract Recruiter and Team Leader on the EPC side of Astute’s Power Generation recruitment team.
For the latest in Our People profile series, he spoke with Astute’s Head of People, Sam Bradshaw, about her recruitment career and some of her recent successes.
How did you get into recruitment?
I was approached by one Astute’s Directors and we set up a meeting to discuss potential roles and whether I would be interested in a change of a career.
Recruitment, in general, has always been an interesting industry to work in, and when this opportunity came up with Astute, I did some research on the company, and could only see positive feedback, so I jumped at the chance.
As a Power Contract Recruiter, what roles have you filled recently and at what types of companies?
We specialise in recruiting white collar professionals from Construction through to Commissioning in the Power industry.
We specifically cover roles with EPC Contractors (Principal Contractors) varying from Site Management, Health and Safety, Planning, Quality and Engineering disciplines across the Power industry.
What is your favourite thing about working as a Power Contract Recruiter at Astute?
I enjoy the family feel here at Astute.
I’ve been here for more than six years now, so the size of the business has definitely increased, however, the culture has not changed.
It’s a great place to work.
I’ve been given the chance to really develop my skills not only as a Recruiter, but also into a leadership role.
We have some great benefits too.
What have you enjoyed most about your recent successes as a Power Contract Recruiter?
Over the past two to three years I’ve really focused on the team and their development.
It’s great to see certain people really thrive over recent months, which has really developed them as a Recruitment Partner.
I like to really push myself and my own personal targets, however, there really isn’t a better feeling to see people around me stepping up.
What is the most exciting thing about your market?
As a Power Generation Recruiter, the sector has always been an exciting market to work in, especially with the amount of projects that have reached financial closure in recent years
With more projects being built every year, this provides much more opportunity for permanent staff and contractors across the UK and overseas.
What advice would you give someone who is looking to join Astute?
If you join Astute and you really focus on developing your understanding of the sectors you work in, and you put the effort in, then we will support you throughout your journey here.
